About

About Laura

I’m Laura Barker, a family nurse practitioner with 13 years in healthcare. For years I’ve cared for my own panel of patients in mental health, ADHD, and weight management, work that became Balance Mind and Wellness in 2025. I also spent four and a half years practicing at Intermountain Health’s LGBTQ+ clinic in Salt Lake City, one of the great privileges of my career. I keep this practice small on purpose: visits with room to actually talk, and never starting over with someone new.

FAQ

Common questions

Do you take insurance? +

No, this is a cash-pay practice. You pay at the time of your visit, and I can provide a superbill you’re welcome to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Staying out of insurance is what lets me keep visits unhurried. You get my full attention instead of a fifteen-minute slot.

Do I need to live in Utah? +

You need to be physically located in Utah at the time of your appointment. Licensure follows where you are, not where you live, so if you’re a Utah patient traveling out of state, we’ll reschedule for when you’re back.

Do you prescribe GLP-1s? +

Yes, and it comes with the rest of the picture: any necessary labs, ongoing follow-up, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and adjustments as we go. Not a questionnaire and a prescription.

What days do you see patients? +

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Times vary week to week, and I keep some early mornings and evenings open through 6pm MST for people who can’t step away midday. If nothing on the calendar works, reach out. I can usually find something.

What does the first visit look like? +

We’ll go through your history, what you’ve already tried, what helped and what didn’t, and what you actually want to feel different. If medication makes sense, we’ll start it and plan how we’ll check in. Visits are by video, and you’ll get a link ahead of time.

What if what I need isn’t on your list? +

Ask. Because of my years in internal medicine, I’m open to managing other ongoing conditions, thyroid, blood pressure, and similar, on a case-by-case basis. And if it’s something that isn’t served well over telehealth, I’ll tell you honestly and help you find the right place for it.
